Court house building returned to original glory
Finishing touches are being made to a major upgrade of the Tweed Regional Museum Tweed Heads, with Stage 1 of the refurbishment to reopen to the public on Sunday 1 October.
The Tweed Heads West complex has been closed to the public since March to allow for restoration of the site’s historic Tweed Heads Court House building and the construction of a research office for the Tweed Heads Historical Society.
“The Court House has been restored to something like its original state,” Tweed Regional Museum Director Judy Kean said.
“The Court House displays now focus on the life of this significant heritage building, as well as including items from the Museum collection with an emphasis on the Tweed’s maritime history, and the border region.
“The second stage of refurbishment, to get underway later this year and early next year, will provide a new fully accessible entry to the Court House, a revamp of the Museum Precinct in Pioneer Park and a refurbishment of Boyd’s Shed.”
The Court House building is one of the last remaining public buildings of its era in Tweed Heads and has a long and distinguished history.
The upgraded Tweed Regional Museum Tweed Heads will be open for extended hours for the next few months. Until the end of January, the Museum will be open to the public Sunday to Wednesday from 10am - 4pm.
