Museum to host the Tweed's biggest ever street party

Celebrate 20 Years with a bumper music line up and family fun

Tweed Regional Museum is gearing up for a huge 2024 Street Party which will be held on Saturday 31 August from 12 pm (noon) - 7 pm at the Museum and its surrounding streets.

Following on from the success of last year’s event, the Tweed Regional Museum Street Party 2024 will be an epic afternoon featuring live music, a maker’s market, collaborative public art, delicious food, a beer garden and much more.

The event is inspired by all things Tweed; our people, places, biodiversity and history - and will be part of the Museum’s 20th birthday celebrations.

Museum Director Molly Green said the day was about celebrating the Tweed, its uniqueness, it’s heritage and its place as an epicentre of culture and creativity.

“We are so proud to be able to build on the incredible success of last year’s party and bring people another wonderful afternoon of free activities and entertainment to enjoy with family and friends,” Ms Green said.

“There is something for everyone to experience and enjoy! We invite you to come down and enjoy the magic of the Tweed with us – and of course, to say happy birthday to our state-of-the-art regional museum that is so loved by our community and beyond”.

The event boasts a main stage with an incredible music lineup featuring Lazy Ghost, Blackline, Bella Amor, Tomorow’s Forecast, Ben Whiting, The Jacks and Love Banana.

Stroll down Makers Lane curated by local designer Kirsten Devitt (Each to Own), to discover unique creations and designer wares by talented makers including Maia Green, Between the Hills, Bonnie Hislop, By Elke and many more.

Experience the return of the Tweed Valley Banana Festival Float with its regal throne and four fabulous Banana Queens. Join in for banana-themed fun and photos!

Visit the Story Salon and explore the objects display in the Museum on Wheels. Use a typewriter to add your tale to our collaborative long-form story, browse the library, or have a chat to the Murwillumbah Historical Society and ask that burning question about the Tweed.

Try your hand at weaving beautiful ti leaf leis and colourful bangles with Louise and Kyra Togo while exploring the rich history, heritage, and cultural impact of the Australian South Sea Islander community on the Tweed.

Have a yarn with Bundjalung elder Uncle Franc as you explore the Six Seasons Cultural Calendar. Connect to Country and hear cultural knowledge about seasonal markers.

Sit for our talented face painters and be transformed into a native species from the Tweed to roam wild throughout the party!

Get ready for a blast of giggles, bubbles, and dance moves as beloved children’s entertainer Shorty Brown lands a DJ set at the Jam Van from Tweed Holiday Parks. The kids Adventure Game is also back with new puzzles and activities to explore throughout the entire party!

Follow the Cassettes as they light up the street with their dazzling flashmob performances and lead a choreographed 80s dance with the crowd. It’s groovy, baby – bring your best moves to get down!

Work alongside local artists Tamsin Ainslie and Leith Walton at Face-to-Face, a collaborative public artwork that celebrates you, and all the diverse faces of the Tweed.

If you need a rest and refuel after all that, then pick up some food from Oki Foods' Japanese delights, Kat Harvey’s cheese station, Yulli's Modern Asian and Mediterranean cuisine, Southeast Asian from Khanthaly's Kitchen, Flyin' Fox Icy Poles, and heaps more.

Kick back and listen to the bands in the Swamp Beer Garden while sipping a tasty beverage by Spangled Drongo and the Gin Experience. While you are there grab your Tweed Tales Trivia and test your knowledge—can you spot the tall tales among the true stories? Prizes await those who can!
