28 July 2023 - 23 March 2024
Supertonic explores the vibrant musical world from Byron Bay to the Gold Coast through recordings, scores, instruments, sounds, and stories of people creating music. Local bands and musicians have a strong connection to the place, drawing inspiration from the culture, landscape, and people of the area.
The Museum has collaborated with a large number of musos and featured musicians include Sunnyboys, Budjerah, JK47, Amy Shark, Tora, The Jezabels, Troy Cassar Daley and more.
Augmented reality brings this exhibition to life creating a multi-sensory experience of your favourite music like never before, complimented by the Museum on Wheels which will bring the exhibition to festivals and gigs throughout the Shire including Splendour in the Grass and SWELL Sculpture Festival.
Museum cabinets are full! See special items loaned by Amy Shark, TORA, Bobby Alu, and Budjerah and more.
A highlight of the exhibition is an extensive collection of rare vintage Australian made guitars, bass guitars, amps, ukuleles, and harmonicas from the 1940s-1970s, belonging to Gary Dennis, owner of Motorcycle Music in Coolangatta. Download the list of collection objects here.(PDF, 479KB)
